Peking University (People's Republic of China)

Founded in 1898, Peking University is respected as one of the world’s most prestigious universities and has trained the majority of the country’s élite. It includes 30 faculties and 12 departments, with a strong tradition in the pure and applied sciences. Notwithstanding the emphasis on the sciences, Peking University sets a standard for all disciplines. As such, it offers 93 different specialisations at the undergraduate level, 199 master’s programs, and 173 doctoral programs. The campus, located in the northwest section of Beijing’s university quarter, is home to approximately 46,000 students, of whom 15,000 are undergraduates and over 1,500 are from abroad. 

In 2006, Peking University placed 14th in the rankings of the Times Higher Education Supplement. Numbered among the University’s more than 100,000 graduates are numerous leaders of various Chinese governments.
