Founded in 1878, the Université de Montréal is today, with its two affiliated schools, the École Polytechnique and the HEC Montréal, the largest university system in Québec and the second largest in Canada. It has over 55,000 students (5,000 of whom come from abroad), employs over 10,000 people and grants almost 10,000 diplomas at all levels of university studies. With its thirteen faculties and numerous departments, the UdM is one of the largest universities in the French-speaking world. It offers 283 undergraduate programs as well as 381 programs at the master’s and doctoral levels. As well, 27 health care establishments are officially affiliated with the Université de Montréal.
