Universidad de Buenos Aires (Argentina)

University web site description The University of Buenos Aires (UBA) was inaugurated 12 August, 1821 by the initiative of Bernardino Rivadavia - at the time Ministry of Government of Buenos Aires . Since then, the institution has followed, first as a provincial and then -since 1881- as a national University, the course that the country and city's history have taken. The institution has also gone along paths that contributed to its growth as a cultural and scientific academic centre and a place for the training of professionals, circulation and production of knowledge. The bonds that the UBA holds with the community are inherent to its main mission - training professionals is a long-term commitment with the society, as well as carrying out research in order to improve the human and social life quality. It is, therefore, fundamental to foster the projects of university extension department that involve the joint work of teachers and students in concrete real situations. These projects embrace a wide range of problems: those connected to health, education, environment, children's and adolescents' rights, social vulnerability, and crime and violence, among others. The extension department's main objective is to produce changes in society so as to contribute effectively to a better quality of life.
